On 31 March 2026, the security community was shaken by a sudden transfer order. Captain Thammanoon Wanna, Commander of the Trat Marine Task Force, was relieved of his border post and assigned to the Navy's Humanitarian Mine Clearance Unit, effective 1 April 2026.
Before his role as Commander of the Trat Marine Task Force, Captain Thammanoon Wanna held the position of "Chief of Operations for the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Force." He also served as head of the Marine Ranger Control Unit 3 at Ban Khao Lan, overseeing Ban Tha Sen and Ban Chamrak areas. He is known for his integrity and having no conflicting interests in the border region.

Captain Thammanoon Wanna, Commander of the Trat Marine Corps Ad Hoc Unit, commented on the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border near Ban Nong Ri, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province, stating that: The agreement between Thailand and Cambodia to withdraw troops, which both sides signed, requiring the withdrawal of forces and main weaponry from the border area, does not involve the area of the three houses at Ban Nong Ri, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province.
The area of the three houses has been encroached upon by Cambodia into Trat Province for a long time, which the Cambodian side acknowledges. However, when the unit entered to negotiate and request the withdrawal of forces, the Cambodian side refused, insisting on following their government's orders to wait for boundary demarcation first.
"I reported to the Marine Corps Commander after taking him to inspect the area and hear the latest situation. The Trat Marine Corps unit will maintain its position in the area, waiting for the appropriate situation and waiting only for orders from the chain of command on how to proceed. Every Marine is ready, both with manpower and supporting weapons.
"I will not allow the Cambodian side to dictate or draw a line for us to follow. Instead, I will exert pressure and act according to military tactics to make the Cambodian side comply with us. I affirm that the Trat Marines will absolutely not follow in Cambodia's footsteps in order to protect Thai soil," said Capt. Thammanoon.
The ongoing mission for the Trat Marines is to continue operations, especially clearing the surrounding area of landmines.
Once the surrounding area is safe, the Trat Marines will immediately seize the area and hoist the Thai national flag, to reclaim Thai sovereignty after 40 years of encroachment since 1986. Thailand has consistently protested this encroachment but has never received cooperation from Cambodia.
The Trat Marines emphasized a message to the Thai people and Trat residents, thanking all sectors for their support for this mission, and reaffirming that they will continue to protect and reclaim Thai sovereignty.
